Abstract

Blood pressure that increases suddenly and is very high accompanied by worsening damage to target organs, is often called hypertensive crisis. Morbidity and mortality in Chronic Kidney Failure (CKD) patients is caused by cardiovascular disease. Hypertensive crisis is usually characterized by blood pressure with systolic ≥ 180 mmHg and systolic ≥ 120 mmHg, an emergency is determined based on acute target organ damage such as stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, hypertensive encephalopathy and acute renal failure. The research aims to determine whether Chronic Kidney Failure patients experience Hypertensive Crisis. Using the case and control study method, with a retrospective approach. Using accidental sampling technique with a total research sample of 70 people, with details of 35 chronic kidney failure patients as the case group and 35 patients other than CKD as the control group who were encountered during the research. The data will be tested using the Chi Square test. Results: 25.7% of chronic renal failure patients experienced hypertensive crisis. Statistically, if the relationship between CKD and hypertensive crisis was tested, the value of p = 0.049 was obtained. In this study there was a significant relationship between chronic renal failure and hypertensive crisis. CKD patients should be able to maintain their lifestyle and receive regular treatment to reduce the risk of complications from hypertensive crisis
