Abstract

Father involvement in helping to raise children also contributes to the cognitive, intellectual, behavioural, gender role, and faith development of adolescents. If the father is not involved in childcare both physically and psychologically, it will have a profound psychological impact. This study aims to measure the relationship between the absence of a father's role and emotional regulation and self-confidence in adolescents. The research design uses a correlational approach with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at a senior high school (SMA) in Kudus Regency in 2024. The research sample was 106 students through a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used the Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ), a self-confidence questionnaire, and an Emotional Regulation Scale questionnaire that has been validated and reliable. Data analysis used the chi square test. The results showed that the presence of fathers in parenting had a significant correlation with adolescent emotional regulation (p = 0.001). The Presence of Fathers in Parenting also had a positive effect on adolescent self-confidence (p = 0.007). The presence of fathers in childcare needs to be increased to achieve good mental health conditions in adolescents.
